The final quality control of the dates is carried out by the Tunisian state, which lays down detailed quality criteria for exported dates. In 2007, an HACCP system is being introduced which will guarantee indispensable quality assurance standards for the export market that exceed Tunisian state guidelines.
gebana Maghreb operates according to gebana ag fair trade regulations and is thus overseen by gebana ag. The situation is analysed in mutual discussion and continuously improved.
The collaboration with Taieb Foudhaili, managing director of gebana Maghreb, has allowed continuous quality improvements, an increase in exported tonnage (today ca.150 tons/year) and the admission of new farmers to the project. Improvements to the internal control system have simplified the certification according to Bio Suisse, EU organic standards and NOP norms. gebana Maghreb, together with one of the other farmer's cooperatives, is also certified under the FLO label for fair trade (Max Havelaar).
